Working
Style

You will be confronted with my honest opinion, based on years of experience.  I am a blunt, yet caring person – which means that expectations would normally be aligned and met. I provide the pros and cons of each process (to the best of my knowledge). My approach is usually to try and resolve the dispute in a non-litigious manner and if this does not work, we will explore litigious avenues together. it usually keeps the costs low for the Client.

Industry
Experience:

I have a variety of experience in family law (divorce, matrimonial disputes, child law, maintenance, domestic violence, negotiation and settlement), litigation (civil, estate, motor vehicle, debt collection, and matrimonial), mediation, property law (landlord and tenant), contractual litigation, criminal law, commercial law, civil aviation, and legal drafting.

I have also been given the privilege of being appointed to represent children in litigious matters. My experience extends to supervising candidate attorneys as well as junior attorneys. In fact, I argued my first contested litigation case within 6 months of my articles and won against an opponent 40 years my senior! I soon learned that where there is a problem, there is always a solution.

My career began when I articled with a veteran litigation and family law specialist, Clorinda Scalco, and I started handling my own cases quite early into my articles. When I became admitted as an Attorney of the High Court in July 2013, this experience only amplified.

When I took on the role of Senior Attorney at Martin Vermaak Attorneys, my role transitioned into overseeing and mentoring candidate attorneys and supervising junior attorneys. Through all of these experiences, I developed my own style and approach towards legal problems and pattern recognition which is designed to serve the intrinsic needs of a situation.
